A moment later an old sedan with the hooded figures that broke into Baker’s Hardware and destroyed the evidence on tape drives up and pulls over next to the truck. The hooded driver of the truck walks up and throws a brown bag into the back seat of the Sedan and watches as it backs up and drives away. Then the hooded figure makes a call.” Done” he says as he jumps into the old truck and speeds away.

The next morning it’s day three of the trial, and Julius has called Bone to the stand.

“So, you were just hanging out, when the police rolled up, is that correct?” says Julius,

“Right,” says Bone.

“And you're telling the court that you after you were tazed unjustly by one of the officers he proceeded to arrest you without probable cause. And in fact, later it was revealed that you were wrongfully accused.”

“Right,” says Bone again.

“And when you were in the heat of this confrontation, what did Deion Jackson do?”

“What D always do. Held me down man” says Bone. “And I ain't gon’ front, they step outside that badge, they just another gangsta that needs to be handled. But D said, ‘Man, I got you’. Po-po ain’t taking you out on my watch.”

“So what you're telling this court is that Deion Jackson felt you had too much to live for to get into a fatal confrontation with law enforcement, correct?” concludes Julius.

“Fo sho,” says Bone.

Julius Hayden looks at the jury as he says, “No more questions, your honor.” Then he turns to McClain. “Your witness.”

“Now, Mr. Gates,” says McClain. “Your name is Cleveland Gates, and Bone is your street name—or we can say your ‘gang-affiliated description’? Is that correct, sir?”

Bone nods his head.

“Uh-huh’ is not an answer to my question.”

Bone glares at McClain with no response.

“In fact, you are one of the leaders of the south side mafia. Is that not true, sir?”

Bone stares down McClain, again refusing to answer.

“Your Honor I'd like an answer to my questions sometime during this century,” Demands McClain.
